In this paper the relationship between the pandemic, Hobbes’ theory of social contract and the role of the consensus is going to be analysed. It is to state that with the pandemic, interest in the Hobbes’ theory -specifically in his Leviathan- started to grow gradually. As a result of this uncertain and considerably chaotic circumstances which are caused by the pandemic, the modern world started to more resemble the world of Hobbes. In these circumstances, people resorted to the states in order to find protection and solution. As a consequence, the states started to restrict -constitutionally or unconstitutionally- some of the fundamental rights and freedoms. Such restrictions manifested themselves mostly as “confinement” and “auto-confinement”. At this very point adopting some of these restrictions such as “auto-confinement” has been left into the own initiative of the citizens. In this context one can see the two dimensions of Hobbes’ Leviathan which reflected to the today’s world. First, under these circumstances, people - via giving their consent- recreated the almighty and powerful Leviathan who does not have any responsibility and secondly, by obeying its restrictions, people are demonstrating their implied consensus to such restrictions.…
