Reviews on online review platforms which are platforms where reviews about products or services can be shared and viewed, may sometimes be defamatory. It is often observed that a comparison is made between those who offer products or services on these platforms. In addition, since it is alleged that the online review platforms treat the persons or companies providing products or services differently at the point of responding to the reviews, it is debatable whether the activities of these platforms constitute unfair competition. Recently, new regulations have been introduced in the Regulation on Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices. In this study, whether the activities of the online review platforms constitute unfair competition or not will be discussed within the framework of the provisions of Article 54 and Article 55 of the Turkish Commercial Code regulating unfair competition and in the light of recent legal regulations. In this context, the role of online review platforms in the competitive environment and the appropriateness of the new regulation will be examined.…
