Abstract: The issue of women’s equality in the community has been present since the earliest days of human civilization and is particularly topical in modern society. Women were not equal to men in the exercise of numerous rights, but this situation has largely improved with technical and technological progress and the development of modern society. The representation of women in public life, government bodies and especially state administration bodies is one of the important issues in most countries today. In the Republic of Serbia, as a country that is still in transition, this issue is relatively well resolved and in accordance with international standards, with a note that women are still somewhat in the background compared to men. Of the social changes at the end of 2000, the presence of women in state bodies and their visibility in society, including within the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia and in the operational composition of the police, is more significant. The paper first gives a brief historical review, the most important foreign experiences and initial experiences in the reception and representation of women in the Serbian police are listed.
